New Preprint Tests Why Kratom Plants Evolve Opioid-Like Compounds

This East Tennessee State University preprint is among the first controlled experiments on the question. Results show kratom leaf does kill insects, but not through the same opioid receptor pathway responsible for its human effects, since insects lack μ-opioid receptors entirely.
